Shopping

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I've been clothes shopping a lot lately but haven't worn most of it since I've been in comfy clothes for class and studying.  I keep forgetting about it and get surprised when I go in my closet.  Here's some of the stuff I bought:

Long Black Dress
Biker-ish Black Coat
Sheer Flower Shirt
Sheer Necklace Shirt
Black Crochet Dress
Red Rose Vine Dress - but in black
Black Corset Top - again in black

I can't find pictures for the coat but I had fun and got some really cute stuff.

I've decided to set myself a few goals to give myself motivation for getting through the bar exam.

I liked Steph's 101 in 1001 but don't know that I have that many goals.  So we'll just say these are my goals for the next few years.
1) Learn French to the point of being fluent conversationally
2) Go to Europe or
3) Go to an island - e.g. Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Hawaii
4) Try out a new recipe once a month
5) Finish crocheting the blanket I started years ago
6) Watch at least 100 of the movies on my Netflix queue
7) Get down to and maintain a weight of 125
8) Begin regularly working out - once a week then working up to 3x a week
9) Send care package to troops overseas 4x a year

To be continued......

Not much going on in my world.  Every morning is spent in bar prep classes, then lunch, then reviewing notes, taking MC questions and outlining essays.  Then going home on marta, more bar prep work and then stopping when Chris gets home.  Exercising, Dinner, TV then bed before another day of the same.

Let me know if you want to hang out or do anything as I would love to have a break from this stuff.

I'm so excited that Liz gets to bring her baby raccoons with her to work!  Yay cool boss-man.  This means I will hopefully get to see them in real life this time!

Bar prep sucks.  It's the quickest way to make yourself feel stupid and like the last three years were a waste.  It should get better but I still am bummed about it.  As shown in my earlier post, I have to read a section before each class, then review my notes from class and work on 50 MC Qs each night which will take about 3 hours, 1.5 to do them and the same to review the answers.  Plus when we finish a subject which is about 3x a week, there are more MC Qs and outlining or write out the answer to an essay which will take about 2 hours each day.  They recommend 5-8 hours work outside the 3-4 hour class each day.  I wish I had the comfort of having a job but I think its easier to not have to work when doing bar prep.  But if I get a job where I have to work, then I'll have to figure something out.

Chris is good, same job, same everything.  We try to make dinner together once a week which is nice.

Susan just got 2 jobs, part time I think, at Bath & Body and Torrid.  She's free this summer but will be doing study abroad in the fall and graduate in Dec.  I'm so so proud of her.

Mom and Dad are same ol', same ol'.  They will probably be selling their house in a year or two and moving out to Monroe or Between (toward Athens).

That's about it.  Nothing too interesting.

Bar prep has taken over my life and my desk:

My schedule

My desk

May 14th, 2009

So I know you guys are just dying to know what I'll be doing all summer and it's quite sad that I can state it all this easily.  My summer will be uber-boring.

Bar prep:
May 18th-23rd       9-3:30pm
May 26th-July 7th   9am-12:30pm
July 17-19th           9-4
July 28th                BAR EXAM 7:30-5:35pm
July 29th                BAR EXAM 8:30-4:30pm
July 29th                after 5pm, drinking heavily.

Each day after bar prep is bar homework.  After all that, wii, shower, dinner, sleep.

And through it all, try to find a job.

There, I hope you now are able to go on with your lives knowing that I will be diligently studying for 10 weeks even though I just completed 3 years of this crap.

Oh yes, and we don't get the bar results until October 31st.  So it truly is trick or treat this year.

I have to shut myself off from all distractions in order to get through the next few days and finish law school.  See you on the other side!!!!

February 12th, 2009

I feel compelled to write on this issue because it's interesting to me and controversial.  Personally, if you can take care of them, I don't really care how many you have.  Example, if Bill and Melinda Gates wants to have 30 kids, go for it.  I understand that he may not be able to give all them as much personal time as parents with fewer but they can afford it in many ways.

One thing that's been bothering me is that they keep comparing this mom to the Family from Jon & Kate plus 8.  The two major differences: having two parents caring for the kids plus have only 8 instead of 14 make this a bullshit comparison.  JK are taking care of their kids without gov't assistance that I know of.  I know at this point in time, Nadya Suleman is supposedly not on gov't assistance but the idea that she can support 14 kids alone even with a Master's degree is absurd.  I googled and found a calculator that will tell you how much it costs to raise a child.  If you input born in 2009, west coast, single parent, lowest income bracket will cost her $60k for the first year just for the new babies, not including the previous 6.  Including them, it costs over $105k a year for just the kids.  This means that before taxes, she'd have to make $150k a year.  That doesn't include her personal costs and anything other than the bare essentials.  If she manages to make the money and give her kids the support they need, more power to her.  But, thinking of this logically, it just ain't gonna happen.  Physically, she won't be able to produce enough milk to breast feed so she'll have to pay for formula.  She'll be paying for childcare of some sort once she gets a job.  Another comparison has been made to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.  If they end up with 14 kids, its not a big deal because they have millions to spend on taking care of them and can afford to sit home with them 24/7.

So basically, have as many kids as you can take care of so that they grow up happy and healthy.  Other than that, stop before you want me or any other tax payer to help.  It's irresponsible to have more than you can take care of.  And please don't respond with all the religious crap, I get it that she didn't want the embryoes destroyed.  She could have donated them to individuals who couldn't have kids.  Even if she didn't believe in that, whatever, I'm not address the various religious arguments.  I'm only attacking the logic of having 14.

Melody

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

So Melody called me earlier today and I let it go to voicemail because I didn't feel like talking to her. She called to tell me she was on her way to GA because her grandfather died. I'm sad for her and her family about this and also because I knew him. I'm torn over whether to go to the memorial service for him. I think I should because I knew him and I was close to her family for so many years. But at the same time I think it will be awkward because I'm no longer close to them or Melody. I still haven't decided whether I want to go to her wedding.

I'm still very hurt about the way she's acted in the past 18 months or so. My trip up there last Dec was disappointing. I was hurt by her completely excluding me from her wedding - not even telling me when it had been scheduled after I'd been asking about it regularly. I found out the date when I saw her respond to someone about it on facebook. Then I emailed her asking again and found out that I wasn't a part of the wedding in any sense other than a guest.

I can't think about the situation without crying which is why I'm awake now. I know people grow up, change and grow apart but I was not prepared for my best friend since we were 9 to completely dismiss a friendship of more than a decade.

Paper evilness

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So I have a paper due tomorrow at 5pm.  It's supposed to be 4-5,000 words and I only have 2,400 words so far.  I'm going to try using Write or Die to force myself to write.

Once I finish, hopefully this evening, I need someone to help me out by reading it over and doing some editing.  Anyone?

Also, how do you tell a parent to leave you alone?  My mom calls me almost every day.  She says she worries about me and my time but then when I tell her I'm busy and I have a deadline, she'll say ok and then just keeps talking!!!  Plus, she wanted me to call her last night when Chris and i got home so I sent her and my dad each a text message because it was almost midnight.  But she still had to talk to me today.  I am so sick of being treated like a child.  I'm married, financially stable, have a solid career path, etc.  I shouldn't have to report my every move to her.  She needs to learn to let go and let me and my sister be adults.  I've been trying to cut the cord for years but she refuses to allow me to be an adult.  ERGH!!!!!!!!

Ok, enough venting, back to this damn paper.

Class badness

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So I suck at cross examining apparently.  I got called on first to go and I was counting on hearing some other people to get me in the groove.  I sucked really bad.  I had so many great things I wanted to talk about and I got bogged down in the mundane details.  I am so upset with myself.  I am better than that.

It also upsets me because about half the class has been on the mock trial team for about a year and so they are much better prepared for this than the rest of us.  It seems to me that they should be graded differently.

Ugh, that just sucked royally.

necessarily traditional – ice cream flavor. Tickets are just $10, and earn you a taste of everything and a chance to win valuable prizes.
